Overview photo:

Caridina Simoni Simoni

Origin: Sri Lanka, but also around Indonesian islands.
Appearance: Small(2-2.5cm) shrimp that looks a lot like other Caridina species. Transparent with occasional pigmentation from gold to brown and sometimes green.
Sexing: Male about 1.8cm and female about 2.5cm. In general, the females are bigger and more robust.
Life span: Unknown.
Size: Up to 2.5cm.
Sexually mature: 1.5cm.
Gestation: 3 weeks.
Character: Peaceful. If they are not kept with fish that are too big and there is no danger for them, you will often see them swimming through your aquarium. Because they often swim through the middle section of an aquarium, it is better to get really small fish.
Tank setup: Can be kept in a community aquarium, provided it does not contain too large fish, as these shrimps do not grow very large. Prefers slightly more acidic water. In alkaline water it is less stable and reproduction is less. Loves many plants. It is recommended to put oak and beech leaves on the bottom.
Waterconditions: Temperature 18-32ÂșC with slightly acidic water. In the natural environment, the acidity is sometimes pH5.2.
Feeding: Will eat algae, excessive food, dead plant remains, but they also like a tablet of algae or small granules or spirulina.
Breeding: Fresh water. However, they go through a larval stage until the young are real shrimps and start to eat with the parents. These larvae do not need to be in brackish water. During the larval stages they are ideal prey for fish.
Tank mates: Can be kept with other shrimp species, small fish and large crayfish.
