Macrobrachium Kulsiense/Banjare (Pearl shrimp)
Origin: These shrimp can be found in India in estuary areas with a sand bottom. These shrimp like a sand bottom so it can dig. Appearance: Small Macrobrachium with green-brown colour and a white marble motif and small claws.
Sexing: Females are more robust and larger than males.
Life span: Up to 3 years. Size: 3 to 4.5cm. Sexually mature: From 3cm. Gestation: 3 to 4 weeks. Character: They live in holes, plants and cavities of stones. They are not shy and will show them self during day-time. It is preferred to keep in larger groups to make them feel more secure.
Tank setup: From 40 liter with small-leafed plants, Java moss, sandy soil or small stones, wood and hollow pipes. These shrimp like a well-planted tank.
Make sure the water is not too soft and acid, this is not good for growth. They do not like sudden changes in the water conditions.
Waterconditions: Temperature 15-28ºC with an acidity above pH7 and a water hardness of 10dGH and higher. Feeding: Will eat algae, wafer, special shrimp-food, cooked vegetables and detritus. Also frozen food and snail are eaten. Breeding: Breeding is hard. Good waterconditions is a must. Should be kept in hard and neutral water. In order for eggs to develop the temperature should be kept above 20ºC. They grow slowly.
