Caridina cf. Cantonensis 'Tiger Blue' (Blue tiger shrimp)
Origin: China. Appearance: The blue tiger shrimp is a variant of the Caridina cf. Cantonensis 'Tiger'. The pattern of these shrimp is similar but the base colour is blue. The intensity of the blue colour will vary between individual shrimps.
This species has orange eyes. Sexing: Females grow larger than males and are more robust. The colour of females is usually more intense. Life span: Up to 2 years. Size: 2.5 to 3.5cm. Sexually mature: From 3 months onwards. Gestation: About 3 weeks. Character: Friendly. Tank setup: From 20 liters with plants. Plants with small leaves and Java moss are ideal. Waterconditions: Temperature of 20-27ºC and an acidity of pH6 to pH7.5 with a water hardness to 8dGH.
Feeding: Will eat algae, excessive food, cooked vegetables and detritus. Leafs from beach, alder and oak trees will be eaten as well. Breeding: Reasonably easy. Likes acid water. The young are almost colourless and the tiger pattern will show when they have grown to 0.5-1cm. Dropping the temperature to 15-20ºC in the winter can enhance breeding results.
