Cambarellus Shufeldtii (Cajun Dwarf crayfish)
Origin: USA Lousiana and Missouri. Appearance: The clolour of the female is usuallt darker, just like the Mexican dwarf crayfish. In general the colour is red-brown to grey-isch and can have 4 long stripes from front to back. Sexing: Males are usually smaller and have larger claws. Males have gonopodes as well. Life span: 2-3 years. Size: 2.5 tot 4cm. Sexually mature: From 2.5cm. Gestation: About 4 weeks. Character: Vriendelijk en niet agressief naar andere soorten en/of vissen. Tank setup: From 20 liter, some Java moss and plants with small leaves. Multiple adults in a tank is no problem. Make sure there are enough hiding places. Young crayfish need hiding places in order to make sure they are not eaten when they moult. They will leave plants alone. Animals that sleep on the bottom are not always safe. Waterconditions: Temperature 18-28ºC and acidity of pH6.0 to pH8.0 with a water hardness of 3-30dGH. Feeding: Will eat nearly everything. Detritus, dead fish, small snails, dead plants and special crayfish food. Breeding: Easy. Tank mates: Small fish and other friendly animals.
