Origin: Can be found just about anywhere.
Appearance: Beautiful snail with a spiral-shaped shell that can grow up to 4cm. Reddish brown house and beautiful red flesh. In addition to the brown version, the houses can also be transparent/pink and blue.
Sexing: These snails are hermaphrodites.
Life span: 2-3 years.
Size: Up to 4cm.
Sexually mature: Start at around 2 months.
Gestation: They lay eggs which hatch after 2-4 weeks.
Character: Peaceful and will only eat your plants if there is really too little food. The ramshorn snail can also breathe outside the water. Ideal for cleaning up excessive food and plant residues.
Tank setup: Can be used in any community aquarium without snail eaters and/or cichlids.
Waterconditions: Temperature 8-30ÂșC with an acidity of pH7.0 to pH7.5 and a hardness of 5 to 15dGH.
Feeding: Eating algae, excessive food and other waste residues. These snails leave healthy plants alone.
Breeding: Easy. Eggs hatch between 2 and 4 weeks, depending on the temperature. Although the snails are hermaphrodites, they cannot fertilize themselfes. After mating, eggs can be deposited several times. These are contained in a jelly-like, flat and transparent egg package. The eggs are deposited against aquatic plants, under floating leaves or on the aquarium glass.
Tank mates: Everything but snail eaters.
